Mexico Update

We have some unfortunate news... we are coming home tomorrow.

I guess the bad luck with the flight change and then the luggage was just an omen for all things to come. We have had a terrible time. The food was the only thing that was enjoyable here. We hate Mexico.

Our hotel (a four diamond) was a terrible terrible place. The lobby and grounds were amazingly beautiful but everything else was just horrible. The bed was like sleeping directly on the box spring with a mattress pad over it. We didn't get any sleep either night. We had to be moved out of our first room on Saturday morning b/c the room was flooding. They moved us to a new room where we had no working locks on the doors, the hot tub did not work, we continued to get flooded, the ceiling was leaking and caving in and mold was growing on the celing and walls. The bed was just as uncomfortable. In the process of us going to see the new room I slipped on wet marble and fell down 5 stairs, landing right on my tailbone and lower back.

We tried to make the best of it - Hurricane Arthur and all. We decided that today we would head to Cozumel so I could find the Cheesecake I was longing for and do some shopping. Even though I am sore - we figured it would be worth it. We made arrangements with the conceirge to take a cab to Playa Del Carmen ($40), then take a ferry to Cozumel ($22 each) only to find that nothing was open there on Sundays because no Cruise Ships come in... Man, would have been nice for the FA Condesa (our hotel) to give us a heads up on that... so we had to come home (another 45$ cab ride) (I did get the cheesecake, it was spectacular but I am just too bitter to really enjoy that now...)

Finally we came to the decision that we are just over with Mexico. With being hurt and everything else it just hasn't been enjoyable. We fortunatley purchased the extra travel insurance which should cover us having to come home early d/t injury, but I have a feeling that is going to be quite a battle. It took me almost 2 hours on the telephone (my cell phone from Mexico (can't wait to see what that is gonna cost us))....with Travelocity just to get them to move us to a new hotel for tonight. We are now at the JW Marriot which has been amazing. True service. We had to book new tickets home for tomorrow and just pray we get re-imbursed for them and the lost vacation time...

Sorry to be a "debbie-downer".... this has just been a shitty few days for us....especially being my birthday an all....

At least we'll have this fond memory.... can't wait to send this pic to my friends that I first enjoyed this cheesecake with almost 10 years ago now...

See you state-side....can't wait to be back in the good ole USA!
