Making room for more demolition...

Now that the guest room bath is just about finished (see below), Mike is ready to move on to the guest room. When we moved in to our townhome we really used this room more as an office/craft room than anything else - oh, and of course the kitties think it is "their room" too. When I got the great surprise for my birtday/graduation with our new bedroom furniture and mattress we were faced with the decision of what to do with our "old bed". We decided to set it up in our guest room. It has turned out to be a good decision for us. When I was working until 1am I often just hit the sack in the guest room, since Mike was due to wake up only 4 hours later.... when I got sick with the flu in February and was trying everything at all costs to avoid spreading my germs to Mike, I slept in the guest room.

It is pretty bitter sweet to renovate this room. About 5 years ago when Matt and Beth owned this townhouse - Sarah and I did a little "trading spaces" with them. They gave us full reign to do whatever we wanted in here - so we painted, made all new bedding, made cornice boxes and sheers for the windows.... It looked so nice... Well once they moved and we bought the home - all that was left was the cornice boxes and the paint - it has never had the same "finished look", so Mike is going to give it new life again. Sarah and I had worked so hard to make it beautiful so it will be sad to see all the go, but at the same time, it will be great to see it come alive again!

Here are a few photos from the "trading spaces project":

The plan is ready:

Walls are primed and taped and ready for the stripes:

Painting is underway - this was the "flat" stripe:

The Finished room - a Paris Tribute for where
Matt & Beth had gotten engaged. All the bedding sn draperies
had writing in french all over them:

Another angle of the finished room:

The sheers over the mirrored closet doors -
This is also a good shot of how the striping turned out:

We have some big plans for this room - I think we will honour it's "French History" but take it down a different room with blacks and creams throughout. I am really loving all the damask prints right now and picked up a duvet and shams for this room that are in that pattern. Mike plans to replace the mirrored closet doors with new white doors, repaint all the trim, repair some cracks and paint the walls a rich, warm cream, possible build in a book case between the two closets if it isn't load bearing and the biggest job - taking the dreaded popcorn off the ceiling!!! Ughh... it looks so great afterwards but it is such a mess!!! I picked up a great nightstand from Bassett at Sarah's company's overstock sale and we are going to get some new lighting as well.

Wish us luck as we embark on another project - I'll keep you posted as progress begins!!!
